Police in Rahim Yar Khan registered a blasphemy case against a fruit vendor and social media vlogger over allegedly derogatory remarks concerning companions of the Prophet (PBUH) in a video uploaded to TikTok and Facebook. According to the first information report (FIR), a police officer discovered the video while on patrol, in which the vlogger discussed a sectarian disagreement with a mobile phone shop owner. Police alleged that the video contained insulting and provocative language that could incite religious hatred and disturb public peace. The suspect was subsequently booked under Sections 295 and 298-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO). The case highlights concerns surrounding the criminalisation of online expression, religious sensitivities, and the implications of blasphemy legislation for freedom of speech and digital rights in Pakistan.
