The Punjab government has announced a ban on everyday objects equipped with hidden cameras and recording devices, including pens, eyeglasses and watches, to protect citizens’ privacy and personal information, particularly that of women and children. According to the Punjab Home Department, authorities have been receiving complaints about these devices being used for illegal surveillance, harassment and blackmail. The government warned that strict legal action and severe penalties would follow the illegal use, purchase and sale of such spying equipment. The notification will be issued in the coming days, allowing people and traders the time to dispose of prohibited items. The decision comes amid growing concerns about camera-equipped smart glasses, particularly Meta’s AI-powered eyewear.
