Pakistani authorities have arrested a 33-year old man from Khanewal, Punjab accused of operating an online counterfeit postage scheme that allegedly caused more than $1226 million in losses to the US Postal Service. According to the NCCIA, an unauthorized website sold over 5.1 million counterfeit shipping labels to thousands of customers. The labels were typically priced at $2, regardless of a package’s weight, size, or destination, allowing users to ship parcels at significantly reduced rates. The suspect was indicted in Florida last month on charges including conspiracy to defraud the US government, counterfeit postage sales and wire fraud.
