The Pakistani government has urged Google and other digital platforms to consider the country’s specific security circumstances when developing and enforcing online policies. These remarks were made by the Minister of State during a meeting with Google’s delegation and the conversation focused on digital security, social media regulation, counterterrorism, and the timely removal/regulation of harmful online content. Pakistani officials said that given that Pakistan’s geographical and security situation differs from other countries, terrorists use social media to spread fear and promote extremist activities.
