 Pakistan has published “National Data Governance Policy”, a draft legislation that aims at establishing the country’s first universal framework for how data is meant to be collected, stored, shared and used under federal agencies and how artificial intelligence and cross-border data transfers are supposed to be governed. The Minister for IT emphasized that public bodies are meant to act as custodians rather than owners of information on citizens. The framework attempts to strengthen citizen rights by allowing them to know who accessed their data, request corrections, seek deletion where permitted, and obtain human review of significant AI-driven decisions.
