Advocates Muhammad Jalal Haider and Yahya Farid Khawaja filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court seeking directions to the federal government to introduce legislation and a comprehensive regulatory framework governing social media use by children under 16. The petition requests an effective age-verification mechanism, a dedicated child digital protection body, and specific obligations for social media platforms to safeguard minors from cyberbullying, harassment, and harmful content. Respondents include the IT, Information, Interior, and Law ministries, the PTA, and Pemra. A Punjab Assembly resolution by lawmaker Sarah Ahmad separately urged the federal government to prohibit under-16 social media accounts without verified parental consent.
