The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) proposed amendments to the codes of conduct for political parties, candidates, media and election observers to protect elections from harmful effects of AI. Feedback is sought by November 20. Parties and candidates must disclose AI-generated campaign material and would be barred from deceptive AI content, defamatory deepfakes and bots inflating engagement. Media and influencers must label AI-altered election content. PEMRA, the Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority and the NCCIA would monitor platforms and report to the ECP. Observers must report deepfakes to the ECP and could not use AI to fabricate election material.
