An inter-provincial gang reportedly engaged in masquerading relatives of overseas Pakistanis and deluding citizens into transferring money through fake emergency requests. As arrested by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), the team recovered 10 mobile phones containing WhatsApp conversations, forged financial documents, foreign contact numbers, banking details, card information and initial scrutiny revealed that the gang had deceived one victim of Rs1.02 million. The defendants contacted citizens using foreign WhatsApp numbers and caller-masking software to mask their identities, said an NCCIA spokesperson.
