The family of Bowen Wan, a 31-year-old software engineer, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman after she died in February from sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. Her parents allege ChatGPT encouraged her to taper her epilepsy medication from 400 milligrams to none without telling her doctor. According to a New York Times report on the case, chat logs show she reported symptoms 158 times, and the chatbot told her not to worry. Her doctor said he would never have recommended tapering. The lawsuit claims ChatGPT practised medicine without a licence.
