Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has rescued a 13 year old girl in Karachi who was allegedly coerced by an online network linked to the dark web into committing acts of animal cruelty and preparing to harm herself. According to officials, the girl was instructed to poison a cat, which reportedly died, before receiving a second task directing her to inflict serious harm on herself. The girl’s parents were reportedly unaware of her online involvement, although they had noticed behavioural changes over the last six months. The NCCIA is tracing the accounts involved and investigating whether other children in Pakistan have been targeted.
