The Punjab Assembly has begun evaluating the use of AI and digital governance in public services focusing on citizens’ rights and responsible technology. The special committee is the first of its kind in Pakistan and South Asia with a dedicated mandate for AI and digital governance. Following a three-day workshop organized by UNDP and a UK development organization, the committee outlined an inquiry into transparency, accountability, data security, and human oversight. Its initial review will examine the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s violation detection system and welfare assistance linked to the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry.
