Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar addressed a France-chaired UN Security Council briefing on artificial intelligence and international security, urging that AI must not become part of the arms race and calling for guardrails, governance frameworks, and confidence-building measures in the military domain. Dar stressed that human judgement must be retained across all stages of AI development and that AI governance must be taken up in representative, inclusive forums under UN guidance rather than resting with a handful of companies or capitals. He welcomed Pakistan’s founding membership of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation and the first UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva.
